Mardis Gras. I hadn’t known a thing about this holiday until I took a trip last week down to New Orleans, Louisiana to visit my father. This holiday is supposedly a religious Christian holiday to celebrate and feast before they fast for like forty days. By the looks of it to me, it is just another holiday for Christians and people to drink and party. I have nothing against this of course! I absolutely had a blast walking down Bourbon St. getting beads thrown at my head from above and being around thousands of crazy awesome partiers! There were some very exotic people that went all out on their Mardis Gras celebration stuff! I ended up getting one fo those multicolored polo striped Mardis Gras t-shirts with a hood from Wal-Mart. Down south was just nuts! They had at least one parade every day for like a whole month but I was only there for a week but still! There were a lot of women (and men) that would flash their stuff to the people up in balconies so that they would throw them some beads. People were just having fun and I really enjoyed it! I am a partier myself and to be around that many people who also love to party was absolutely fantastic! I can’t wait to go down again! I had also gone to one of my father’s wife’s children’s parades and received a ton of beads! Like, no joke, there were probably a ton of beads around my neck by the time I got home! The whole time I was down there it was just fun the whole time. There was rarely ever a time where I was either bored or just wasn’t having fun. I was extremely exhausted though by the end of each night! New Orleans, Louisiana is definitely the place to be for Mardis Gras partiers!

Birthdays. What is so special about birthdays? Why do we celebrate birthdays? I know that they are celebrations of the day that we were born and came into this world but why exactly is it a tradition? Why, as we get older, do we less appreciate birthdays? I mean, why exactly do we continue to have birthday celebrations when most people that I know think that the more birthdays you have are only one more year closer to your death. Is that really how we are suppose to look upon these celebration? How are we suppose to see this celebration? Are we suppose to just look at it as a way of receiving a bunch of gifts from our family and friends, or are we suppose to realize that we had had another successful year of being alive and should appreciate the last year of our lives and begin to see a better future for the upcoming year? I think birthdays are kind of misused. I think that most people only see birthdays as the day they are allowed to be greedy and do whatever they want. The way I see it is that people think it’s just another holiday that will give them and excuse to party, be drunk, receive a bunch of gifts, and be rude to everybody because they make everybody do everything for them and make their excuse be, “Oh, sorry, it’s my birthday.” I don’t think that is right or in better words, fair. I think that people should enjoy their birthday celebration but they should also not abuse it. People put a lot of time into having these celebrations for one another so why not show a little respect for these people? I say all this because my birthday is coming up and I was afraid that I was only thinking about what I would be getting for my birthday rather than thinking about how much time people spend into putting on a party for that person’s birthday.
