Carl Azuz Explains Gas Prices. I recently was thinking a lot about what is going to happen with gas prices. I am worried because, well, of course my vehicle does not get the greatest mileage that a vehicle can get. Plus, I do do a lot of driving and I am just worried that I won’t be able to keep up with the prices and let alone still be able to pay for other things. Such as: phone bill, entertainment, and traveling like going across towns to go meet up with some friends of mine. Okay, so in this video. Carl Azuz, the CNN Student News guy, says that we should not just go into  a gas station and start blaming the guy at the counter working for raising the gas prices, because fortunately for them, they are not the issue at hand. The problem with gas prices mainly comes from CRUDE oil. For every dollar that is spent on gas, Crude oil takes up 72 cents of that dollar. They are the biggest chunk out of our major gas problem. Then, 13 cents of every dollar spent of gas is given to government TAXES. Another 8 cents of every dollar spent on gas if for refining. REFINING, is how you process all that crude just to produce it into gasoline. Then finally, DISTRIBUTION takes up the last 7 cents out of every dollar. Distrtibution is what is basically all the advertising for selling the fuel and the transportation to all the different stations by semi and then same with paying all the people that work for those advertisement companies. Gas is no small subject. Yes it really blows having to pay so much for gas every week but it’s not cheap to make it! I believe we should really work hard in trying to find a better solution to transportation than fossil fuels!

This is a Cessna Corvalis TT. Without a doubt this is the one plane that I would love to fly and own! I haven’t flown it yet, so I may change my mind about it, but I highly doubt it. One cool fact about this aircraft is it’s outer body. They paneling on this plane has a mesh lining so that if this plane were to be struck by lightning, the electrons will bleed off toward the back of the plane in order to protect the electronic instruments within the plane. Another thing I like about this plane is it is only a round one hundred thousand dollars. This will be affordable for me once I actually have a job as a pilot with a local corporate company. The Cessna Corvalis TT is also a four seater. Which is nice because then I would be able to take a few other people at a time to wherever I am flying to. Maybe to like a Packer’s football game or something. I really would love to go out and just fly places. Kind of like a road cruise but flying. I just want to explore the air and travel places rather than having a destination on my flight. Anyways, this aircraft is also equipped with a glass cockpit and also has a touch screen control panel in the center council. Plus, after seeing many different images of Cessna Corvalis owners, this plane also has a lot of head room, making it very comfortable for long distance flights. Another reason I would love to own this aircraft is that it has a lot of power within the engine and can actually do long distance flights. Not over seas necessarily but at least around the states. I am pretty excited to be an owner of a Corvalis but first, I’m going to enjoy the time spent flying and trying to earn the money to be able to own a Cessna Corvalis TT.

Texting while flying? In this video, it tells about the new rules in aviation. There have been some trouble with personal devices being used by pilots in the cockpit of the planes they fly. This is no different than Iowa’s law of no texting while driving. Using any sort of technological device while operating a vehicle is without a doubt, very irresponsible and unsafe. I would say that it is even more dangerous for a pilot to be operating a plane and using some sort of a personal devices than if it were like a teenager driving down the road and texting because the pilot does have either precious cargo or even passengers within the planes with them. Every pilot should be fully aware of what they are doing as they operate their plane. If they don’t problems are more likely to occur. The FAA does not ban all technology while in the cockpit though. Tablets, phones, and also laptops are not allows for personal use while operating a plane. Although, the FAA does allow the use of tablets and laptops while flying a plane only if the pilot is using the devices for work related use only. There is one thing that I am not so sure of though. I mean the pilot will know that they are not suppose to be using their tablet or laptop for personal use while they are flying their plane but how will the FAA be able to enforce that while the pilot in the cockpit is in the air? I think of this just as it is with texting and driving. I just don’t see how the law enforcement will be able to pursue people that don’t follow this rule of not using technology while operating a moving vehicle. I just don’t know. I guess pilots will only have to realize their job is at stake and they should be responsible enough and respectful of every life on board as they operate their plane.

Not too long ago the Feds found Loose Seats on American Airline Plane. They found that in row 12, there were a few loose seats and that passengers should not ride in those seats until maintenance has taken place. A question that quickly popped into my head was, “How old is this plane?” I mean, most airlines try to keep their aircraft, not necessarily up to date, but at least up to snuff on maintenance to ensure maximum safety for it’s passengers. If I was flying with American Airlines, I would not exactly feel safe if I knew that there were seats comeing out and not being secured down safely. I am sure the American Airliners have lost a little business from this news but I’m sure it hasn’t dropped much due to the fact that people still choose to fly. That is sort of from the economic stand point. Something else that occurred to me was, “Who is the safety advisor for the American Airlines?” I know for sure the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has a strong foot in all the safety regulations with any aircraft or airliner but who is the advisor for that fleet of aircraft? Do they have a say in the safety regulations too? Should airlines start checking off longer lists of things to check on the plane before each flight now? Were the maintenance people not properly trained? Did the engineer design a poor design of seats? Did the mechanic apply the safener (bolts) down too loose or too tight? There are so many questions to this topic it is absolutely astounding! Would you still fly with American Airlines or even fly at all? Or would you fly with a different company? As a pilot, this has not changed my views one bit. I am still going to fly and probably just take more precautions before I takeoff next time!

This is a photo a few flight attendants from KingFisher Airlines, flying mainly out of London and the United Kingdom. King Fisher, at the beginning of the year, had a problem with a delay of payment to the increasingly agitated pilots working for them. I wanted to show this picture because I wanted to bring up a common question. “Who do I work for and where will I work when I start my career in Aviation?” I mean, what pilot does not think of these questions at least once in their journey of becoming a pilot? Again, I am not posting this picture because I want to discourage people from working for KingFisher, I just wanted to give some sort of an idea of what kind of company you could be working with some day. This could mean that you may be working as a flight attendant, international airline pilot in a four man crew, taxiing planes, air trafficker, control tower manager, aerial photography, crop duster (not like in high school hallways), or whatever you choose to be! My direct goal after college is to be a captain in a four man crew flying large airliner planes! I think that would be absolutely amazing. There was one more thing that I was getting from this picture. I was noticing the uniforms. I don’t know about you but I think there is some sort of an uplifting feeling of being all dressed up in uniform. Your posture and attitude change completely once you get that uniform on. I am pretty excited for the day that I get my “wings” and the loops on my shoulders of being a true certified pilot!

This post by Dorothy Adele caught my eye. St. Barths’ runway is 2,133 feet long. It is one of the shortest runways in the world. This is the third most dangerous runway in the world. St. Barths’ is in the Carribbean Islands. Now, for any beginner pilot this would look absolutely horrific, am I wrong? I mean look how short that runways is! Okay, now let me tell you this. Dont, Be, Nervous! With anything, not only when you are flying, training, or having a career in Aviation, but you should never get nervous or scared. Take it with baby steps. Start off on a local airport and work your way up the “difficulty” ladder. Once you have mastered the one you are working on, then move up to a more difficult area of flight. There should never  be a moment in your flight where you either A, don’t know what you are doing, or B, you don’t know what to do in the situation you are in. If this is the case which I sure hope this will never be the case, but if it has become an issue then you either had a horrible instructor or you were given your license too soon without enough experience. You should always be confident in yourself and with your aircraft before EVERY flight you takeoff in!

I thought this was a really Cool Video! This video not only gives you a neat perspective of many different airlines, but also gives you a little information about a few of the airlines that do business around the world. One piece of information that this video gives you is that Delta Airlines is the largest airline company, to this day! Some day I would like to fly for commercially and possibly, internationally, but hopefully that isn’t just a pipe dream! Time and hard work will tell. Also, this video tells us that Asiana Airlines was thee best airline back in twenty ten. I am pretty sure that if you had the best airline in the world, you would feel pretty proud of yourself! Especially if it is put in a video to music like this video plays! To own my own airport or airline would be absolutely a dream come true! I definitely need/want to get quite a few years of piloting under my belt before that happens but some day I would love to own my own airline company! Though, the experience of piloting is my most important goal at this point. Just being in the air and living life, free as a bird, now isn’t that everybody’s dream? You would certainly think so. It is just the best feeling in the world taking off for the first time, looking over the horizon while sun sets on empty blue skies. Now THAT is nothing that can be beat!

I would like to start off with giving you, as a reader, a few general aviation terms that are used around the world, coming from the BBC guidance listings.

AOC – Air Operators Certificate, this is issued by a state’s Regulatory Authority when they are satisfied that the operator has all systems, process and procedures in place to carry out normal Public Transport flight. If a company has an AOC, they will normally satisfy all BBC basic requirements in relation to Aerial Filming

Pilots Licenses – These in three categories, Private (PPL), Commercial (CPL) and Air Transport (ATPL). For Aerial filming purposes only CPL & ATPL license holders can be engaged.

Public Transport – Companies who operate under a Public Transport category in regulatory terms are the most stringently controlled and regulated, therefore offers the highest level of safety. Companies which have an AOC in the Public Transport category should be used for aerial filming purposes.

Let’s begin with the AOC (Air Operator Certificate). This certificate serves the same purpose all around the world. Every pilot must have this certificate in order to do any sort of aerial operations. For the beginner pilot, training for their Private Pilot License (PPL), you must:
– train for a minimum of 40 hours of flight time (10 of those solo)
– have some ground schooling, and
– fly for three hours with an FAA Flight Instructor, and
– finally, pass a written exam
After doing so, and passing, you will then recieve your PPL and also your AOC. Flying is not cheap, therefore, you WILL need to have a budget between two thousand and fifteen thousand dollars. This money will go toward the rental of the plane, the time put into flying, and the fuel. The cost of obtaining each certificate and licenses all depends on where you go and how long it takes you to learn all of the material and master the material. With the PPL, you will be able to fly for recreation and/or pilot for a small business. Typically though, with only a PPL, jobs, like Aerial Photography, are the most common. Anything higher you will then need to move up the ladder, as they say, to receive a higher ranking Pilot’s License and Flight Certificate. If I haven’t mentioned already, these licenses and certificates are no different than  your driver’s license. You will need to carry them at all times!
